What is crushed malt?
The malt grains are crushed so that each piece of grain is separated from the husk (the outer shell). This allows your mash to convert the grain quickly and effectively.
When should I use Black Malt?
As the name suggests, black malt tends to be used in the production of darker beers such as milds, stouts and porters. Use black malt sparingly, ideally no more than 5% of the total malt content of your recipe. It has a strong, burnt coffee flavour.
How should I store Black Malt?
Once the pack is opened, put your crushed malt into a sealed container. Ideally keep the grains in the fridge. Stored in this way, your crushed malt will last for a few months after opening.
